Instructors
Kim Robins
In 2004 I created a studio and a community, Core Wisdom, where our clients have become a part of our extended family. Many of our clients become dear friends to other clients they meet in class. Our clients continue to come not only because they feel better from doing Pilates but because they have connected to those in their classes. The most common reason our clients continue to come and refer their friends is that we not only understand how to work with specific physical issues but because of the personal connection they have with our instructors.
These two reasons are paramount to a successful teaching career and one reason I started my teacher training program. Building a clientele, retaining clients, and working with the many and varied bodies, ages, and physical ailments have helped me design a teacher training program that I feel will have my graduates ready for the challenges when starting to teach at a studio.
My wholehearted belief in the Pilates method and its ability to help so many people have the quality of life they desire is another reason I started the teacher training program. Sharing my passion for Pilates and for teaching have been driving forces in creating a program that will turn out Pilates instructors who are confidently knowledgeable, extraordinarily passionate, and who revel in their job as an instructor. I believe strongly in integrity and feel that small intimate and deeply personal studies are how we become solid in our knowledge and our skills. My training program is limited to 10 students.
I came to Pilates as a dance major in college, in the back row of the corps. After practicing Pilates Mat work three times a week for one semester, I got lead roles. The control and confidence I had in my body and its ability were profoundly different than the semester before. I was in awe of Pilates and wanted more. I enrolled in my first Pilates Teacher Training program right after college.
It was during my first teacher training that I was exposed to all of the Pilates equipment and the many people who were doing Pilates as part of their rehabilitation after injuries and surgeries as well as those that practiced Pilates to maintain their health as they age. I also got to witness how Pilates helped athletes, but it was the rehabilitative power that really inspired me.
It was through all my studies that I learned how truly amazing the Pilates method is. How Pilates looks at the whole person is one of the most valuable aspects that has Pilates held in such high esteem by many in the medical and physical therapy fields. The fact that anyone, regardless of their ability, can do Pilates due to the layering of the system and how easily exercises can be modified or advanced continues to excite me.
I have completed two comprehensive Pilates teacher training programs at The Pilates Studio (1996) with Romana Kryzanowska and at The Pilates Center (1997). Since then I have committed myself to continuing my education. My studies have included: Cara Reeser and Jeremy Laverdure through their workshops at Movement Science Made Simple; Irene Dowd and Steven Fetherhuff; Anatomy Trains; and Buff Bones. I have also completed the post-graduate training, The Heritage Training with Cara Reeser in the lineage of Kathy Grant (2018). I am also a certified massage therapist (2002) and have gone through a 200-hour Yoga teacher training program (2011) with Tias Little.
